Where can I buy Dorset products?

Dorset Cereals can be found in most grocery retailers, within the natural cereal sets, right across the country.
These include, but not limited to, Loblaws, Zehrs, Your Independent Grocer, Valu-Mart, RCSS, RASS, Sobeys, Safeway, Thrifty Foods, Metro, Save-On Foods, London Drugs and gourmet/specialty independents retailers.
Although we would love every single one of their stores to have all of our products on their shelves – unfortunately, they are simply not able to do this.

Is your packaging recyclable?

The card for our boxes is unbleached and made from 100% recycled fibre and so do please recycle it when you’ve run out of uses for it.

Some recycling plants are not able to remove the silver foiling of our logo on the front of our card board boxes so we are looking into removing this for our upcoming new packaging designs.

The inner bags for our muesli and granola are not currently widely recyclable, because we need a high enough food barrier to keep everything fresh. However, we are looking into biodegradable bags among other options, so hopefully will soon have a solution.

Why do some of your cereals contain sugar?

As our customers know, our premium cereal recipes are packed full of dried fruit, nuts and seeds – and these are the ingredients that make our cereals taste great.

When fruit is dried to preserve it, the naturally occurring sugars are concentrated into each little raisin, cranberry or blueberry and these tasty fruits then add sweetness to a recipe – it really is as simple as that.

Wherever possible, we try to avoid adding sugar. When we choose to add sugar it’s to help preserve an ingredient, or to enhance the sweetness. Many of our recipes are completely free from any added sugar whatsoever, such as our Simply Delicious, Super High Fibre, Simply Nutty and Really Nutty mueslis.

Our premium granolas are baked products and we want them to deliver a good crunchy sweet texture. To enable the oats in the recipe to do this we have used either honey or golden syrup depending on the product.

Where does the fat come from in your cereals?

The fat in our recipes is “good” fat from the delicious nuts and seeds we pack into our recipes. Nuts and seeds are high in fibre, rich in a wide range of vitamins and minerals and a good source of protein. They are also an excellent source of monounsaturated fat, which is thought to help reduce cholesterol in the blood. Some of the whole grain cereals we use – for example, oats and barley – also contain naturally occurring fats and sugars.

What does the “may contain” statement mean?

“May contain XXX”, means that we cannot guarantee that the product is totally free from XXX, despite all reasonable precautions. An example would be “May contain nuts”. Due to the allergenic nature of nuts, we cannot say that a product is nut-free as it is manufactured in an environment where nuts are used. All precautions are in place, such as separate storage and full clean-down between products, but there is still a very small risk of cross-contamination.

Where do you source your ingredients?

We are uncompromising in our dedication to finding the highest quality ingredients; the ingredients we use are sourced from the four corners of the world. For example, the recipes don’t just use raisins, they use jumbo-size black raisins, which are believed to be the most flavoursome and have become Dorset Cereals’ signature ingredient.

Do you make any gluten free recipes?

No, we don’t make any products which are totally gluten-free.

Do you make an organic cereal?

Yes, we do – our Organic Fruit, Nuts & Seeds however this is only available for purchase in the UK at this time. This is a tasty blend of organically grown raisins, sultanas, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, Brazil nuts and multi-grain flakes.

I have a nut allergy. Can you guarantee that my muesli hasn’t been near any nuts?

No, we can’t guarantee our cereals were in a nut free environment, simply because we handle a huge amount of nuts every day throughout the factory. However, we do have robust procedures in place to ensure there is no cross-contamination of allergens (such as peanuts – see below), and our staff are fully trained on identifying allergens.

Are any of your recipes Peanut free?

None of our recipes contain peanuts and we produce our mueslis in a peanut free environment. We also work closely with our suppliers to ensure they can provide us with a peanut free guarantee.

Are your cereals suitable for vegans?

With the exception our Honey Granola, all of our products are suitable for vegans.

All our products are registered with The Vegetarian Society.

Are your cereals suitable for a Kosher diet?
